#8 – Cris Carter

Speaking of glue hands, here is Cris Carter. He was the first to make it his mission to master the one-handed catch and his highlight reel reflects that.

What also comes to mind to me is his love and knowledge of the game of football. Late in his career he became the 2nd best WR on his team, and what a blessing for Randy Moss.

Nowadays he plays a similar role. He struggled with a drug problem early in his career and today is the first to call out and aid young players who have similar issues.

How can you not listen to someone as successful as Cris Carter? 8 straight seasons with 1000+ yard seasons and all he did was score touchdowns as he is currently 4th all-time in receiving touchdowns with 130.

Best Wide Receivers Ever - #7 Marvin Harrison

Top 10 Wide Receivers in NFL History – #7 Marvin Harrison

#7 – Marvin Harrison

Some may be quick to credit the success of Marvin Harrison to Peyton Manning, but they must not have seen him play. It takes a special player for Manning to trust for so long and he has a highlight reel of spectacular catches to back that.

Marvelous Marvin was a coaches dream. He was quite, humble, and always ready to lead by example. Extremely intelligent is an understatement as he was always on the same page as Manning who himself is a football god.

The most notable record held by Harrison is his 143 catch season which still holds today. He also holds the record for most consecutive seasons with 10+ touchdowns, as well as a long list of QB/WR tandem records.

There wasn’t much flashyness with Marvin Harrison because frankly he made it look easy. There are only a handful of players as reliable as him, but i’m positive Peyton Manning wouldn’t have traded Marvin Harrison for anyone.

#6 – Don Huston

If you don’t know much about Don Hutson, allow me to give you a little bit of a history lesson. Don Huston was not only a pioneer to the Wide Receiver position, he was a pioneer to the game of football. For every 5 catches Don Hutson made, he scored a touchdown. He ended up retiring with 3 times as many touchdown receptions as any player in NFL history.

In an era that was predominantly run first, Hutson introduced the forward pass to the game of football inventing routes such as the out and up. Let’s rewind to what I think is the greatest season for a Wide Receiver ever in 1942. In only a 12 game season, Don Hutson recorded 1211 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns.

In addition, there was no such thing as defensive pass interference back then, so he was getting mauled. Much like Wilt Chamberlain in basketball, it almost seems like a myth how untouchable some of his stats were. Don Hutson is a football legend who set the standard for the Wide Receiver position. It did after all take 40 years for Steve Largent to beat his touchdown reception record.
