Top 10 Hardest Hitters in NFL History – #2 Ray Lewis

#2 – Ray Lewis

The explosion of a Cobra. Ray Lewis was the leader of the Baltimore Ravens for many years as the best linebacker of his time. His movement was perfect. No wasted steps. This allowed him to rarely be out of position as well as the ability to always be in position to deliver some of the hardest hitters ever.

Anytime he would blitz or drop into coverage, players would be fearful of the damage he could do in the middle. He was extremely instrumental for both of the Ravens Superbowl victories, and the way he retired in 2013 could not have been any more perfect for the future hall of famer.

There have been many victims who will preach just how hard of a hitter Ray Lewis was over his time. The Ravens defense has not been the same since his departure.

#1 – Ronnie Lott

I have to start off talking about Ronnie Lott with a story. He was always looking for the big hit and one time he got his finger caught in a facemask. It was so badly injured that he was given the option to amputate the finger to keep playing or likely go on injury reserve. I don’t know about you guys, but i’m going to keep my finger. Not Ronnie Lott. This guy lived for football and decided for the latter.

The amputation of his finger shows his willingness to sacrifice his body for his 49ers team and his desire to win and hoist the Lombardi trophy which he ended up doing 4 times over his career. If he is willing to inflict that amount of pain on himself for the game, imagine what he was willing to do to his opponents.

Ronnie Lott was a punisher. He wanted to hurt players so badly that their family would be thinking about their safety. He knew the importance of momentum in a game doing everything in his power to shift it in his teams favor.

It’s shocking to think that this was an all-pro cornerback converted safety. He could do it all and for that reason he is the best safety in NFL history.
